I have a miniature Schnauzer-Braxton, A blond wire haired terrier/dachschund mix--Katie, a white and tabby cat named Kisses/Anti-Christ.....we call her Kisses...but there is a story behind the other name....and last but not least a Tonkanese named Mozart....It is funny how they all get along and sleep together and everything...
I grew up with animals, too. I think at a young age, it gives you appreciation for all types of life and I think you grow as person. Animals are just great companions...I see we have a lot of animal lovers on the board....That is great!

Kyla, from the color in Spunky's eye, it looks like that cat runs on Energon.

Those are all some cute pets. About 6 months after my wife and I got married, whe got a cat. She was an Orange Tabby named Ally. I loved that cat, she was always somewhere near where I was. Sadly, she passed away on Jan. 30th. She had a terninal illness called CRF, which is basicly failing kidneys. She apairantly had some kind of birth defect. I found out she has this in October of last year. I gave her sub-Q fluids every night and 3 pills twice a day, but is was a losing battle. She let me know when she was tired of fighting. Recently my wife and I decided to adopt another cat. We got a 6 month old Gray Tabby named Peanut. He is a very sweet and fun cat.

That is sad, Dev. I am sorry to hear that. Pets really become family members. I had a miniature Schnauzer I had adopted. He was a mean little so and so...he hated everyone including me in the beginning. He came from a home that had domestic violence, so he liked no physical contact between people, so when friends and family came over, we had to keep him in another room at first or he would pin our guests up against the wall...after the first 3 months he got attached to me..finally, but that only made him more protective...I had him for years and that seemed to be the inside joke...Jay and his evil dog Smokey...A few years back we found out he had bladder cancer and that he had 6 months to live. It was too late for anything to be done...He got tot the point where he was so sick we had to put him down....I was in the room with him and held him as the gave him the injection and then stayed in the room for an hour crying....I still love that dog....I swore I would never have any more pets....and here I am today with 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 2 fish....pets are jsut wonderfl! Glad the events of your first kitten didn't deter you from getting asecond one!

There's my cat, Simon. Adopted him from the humane society the day before Thanksgiving. Took me awhile to get him so he wouldn't hide or run from me. He's also the first cat I've ever heard of that will play fetch. He gets downright pushy if you don't throw his toy for him.

Like Dev's Transformer Name game at TNI, I never participated i the Monkey Room there either.....I am glad you brought it over here....it is a lot of fun!
My littlest kitten liked to play fetch for a while, but she out grew that when the dogs would beat her to it...she decided she wasn't a dog and became a specatator...if you haven't put out the catnip yet...wait until you do that. Then you will have a super charged cat.
Mine totally loves it. They hear me shake the container and they start meowing and running down the hall to the scrathc posts....2 minutes 29 seconds later..it is a full on Friskies commercial.....

I am sorry about your dog, a few years ago I lost my Black Lab named Jake. But unlike my cat Ally, he at least passed away from old age, he was 13.
Like you dog, I had to have Ally put to sleep. I got up that Friday and she was laying very still. This was odd in that she always greeted me in the morning. She was still alive, but would not move. I called my wife, then we called our vet. My wife was off work that day, but I had to go in. The let me off early and we tok here to the vet. She lay in my lap while they cave her the shot. My wife and I stayed with her for about an hour, both of crying.
Edit: We had to put here to sleep because her kidneys had failed. She would have passed on her own in a day or so, but it would have been very unpleasent for her becasue when your kidneys fail, you are slowly poisoned to death.

I am really sorry to hear that. That was the same thing with the bladder cancer Smokey had....he would have passed in a couple of days, but he could not sit down for more that 5 secs and he would get up and move to a new spot....he would get sick yet he had nothing in his stomach....I knew we had to do it...i hated even thinking that it was the only option, but he was much better off....I did not want him to suffer. I would never wish that on anyone..it is probably one of the hardest things I have ever had to do...

it is probably one of the hardest things I have ever had to do... I understand fully. It was had to do, but it was the only think that I could do to releave her of her suffering. What did you do with you dog after he passed? Becasue I rent, I did not want to burry her here, so I had her creamated and placed in a sealed bass urn. That way when I move, I can take Ally with me. It would break my heard to move and have to leave her behind.

Actually I had him creamated. They had a beautiful Mahogany box, that you could insert a picture into. For the same reasons...you can take them with you....

I haven't had to put down a pet for say about ten years, which is good because in a two year period before that we were doing about one every three months. It was like that Simpsons episode where the cats kept getting killed only about five times worse. Got to the point where we had to start up a new burial area because the first was out of room.
Dog that had been in my family for around 15-16 years, had him shot, yes I know it was barbaric and I didn't care for it at all, he could no longer use his back legs
had another one get hit by a car, that was a smart dog but he wasn't watched well enough and chased something across the road, I was at work at the time
Small Dog from the pound, had some condition, lasted a day
Another dog either died of natural causes or was poisoned in some way, died tied up to his dog house
Siamese fighting cat, I swear that cat could have taken down a medium sized dog, I respected the heck out of that cat, since my parents didn't want him declawed they put him outside when they got a leather chair. Died two weeks later from poisoning.
Various stray cats, I think there was a litter of 8 of a litter were killed off by their mother or ran off to never be seen again. The orginal strays there were four, two were killed on the road, the remaining two given away.
Dog we gave up because he was to destructive, was poisoned (man whats teh deal with all the poison...far area rodent control) and even though it was no longer our pet we were called in for burial detail.
I think thats it, about a 2 year period all that happened. Of course they brought home another dog aroudn that time and I was completely against it, I believe I said that the dog deserves a shot at life as a stray running around. Of course they kept him anyway, he ate some poison and was uneffected by it. Still around to this day, though getting up there in years.

That is the danger with pets, they become people to us...family members...so you form emotional attachments to them....the only thing I don't get attached to are fish...I have male Betas that die about every 3 years, so I have a flushing ceremony and off they go for the greater good!
