Yoness all!
I had an absolutely INCREDIBLE weekend this week at the Sci-Fi Expo in Dallas. I had a tremendous haul and got some autographs as well. My friend Aaron (who I hope will join this board within the next few days) and I left at 8:45 a.m. Saturday to drive to Dallas from Waco (about 90 miles) & attend the Sci-Fi Expo in Richardson, TX.
The first thing we did was purchase admission and wait in line. This came after having to locate an ATM machine. I also pulled some money to allow for autographs and toys, etc. We paid the $10 fee which gave us general admission for one day. Had we paid $20, we would have a speed pass which would allow us to jump ahead in line for autographs and also grant us admission for Sunday.
We sped past the autograph tables and headed into the dealer room. I looked around and saw wall-to-wall Star Wars, Star Trek, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Justice League, He-Man, posters, swords, Klingon weapons, etc. You name it - it was there. I was so excited that I couldn't stop *laughing* of all things!
After about an hour and a half, we came out with a bunch of toys. Not including autographs of objects in the picture...we came out with this:
Aaron:
T'Pol
Morpheus
Captain Kirk
Marina Sirtis poster
Me:
Mirror Kirk
Chekov
Sulu
Scotty
Leia Jedi
Clone Wars Yoda
Clone Wars Anakin
Vintage Poncho Leia (complete)
Leia w/ Speeder Bike
Luke w/ Speeder Bike
Bombshell
Bluestreak (Vintage, Complete - $35)
Wonder Woman Roto (For StrykerX2K)

After that, we saw that general admission was allowed to start getting autographs. We hit it at full force. First up was the star trek line. Marina Sirtis was first and Robert Picardo was second. Aaron was ahead of me and got a poster signed.

I had already obtained a Marina Sirtis autograph in 1994 - She signed a drawing i did when I was 12! So I said "Well....why not do THIS instead??:"

She is still VERY pretty & was probably one of my early loves as a young Junior Higher. Fanboy mode: ON. She was very funny and didn't charge for pictures with her (as some actors do)
Next was "the Doctor." He was very nice and carried himself as his character did in Voyager. He is very well spoken and sophisticated. Heh - but he does NOT come off as the semi self-righteous Doctor we know and love. I told him "You got me through college" (with his portrayal of the Doctor in the show) to which he replied "Well I suppose that is better than *putting* you through college." I followed up by saying that his character was "mid-week entertainment at its best" and he replied with a sincere "Thank you" and a smile.![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Next was the Big Hit. The Star Wars dudes. Lando and Chewy.
Billy Dee Williams was probably the most disappointing of the group. He was very quiet, didn't say anything and charged the most for his autograph.
Peter Mayhew on the other hand was very friendly and very approachable. (I didn't get the feeling he was going to growl or howl at me to cause me to run away)
For these two, I used my Empire Strikes Back (widescreen) THX Remastered (Non Special Edition) ...<wow that was a long name> LASERDISC sleeve. It is very big, and I should be able to fit any future Star Wars signatures on there.![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I was about out of money - put there was one other person there that I wanted to get. Erin Gray. She was in Buck Rogers and Silver Spoons. Oh my goodness! She became a highlight of the convention. I was third in line at the time I jumped in (she saw a good amount of people traffic too), but I might as well have been seventh. She was *very* friendly to EVERYONE who stepped up there. What an incredibly nice woman! She signed a Buck Rogers picture for me and a surprise gift Silver Spoons picture for my sister (we both grew up watching Silver Spoons). She shook my hand twice - Once for a formal introduction and second as a thanks when we were done.

That pretty much capped the day in terms of the Sci-Fi Expo. We had some small troubles on our way out, but Aaron was able to handle the situation just fine.

Whew! ALL of that INCREDIBLE FUN and I still have to go to OTFCC this month! (Not to mention I was at the Home Run Derby tonight and I am going to the All-Star game tomorrow)
Wow! I love July 2004!
