blog.scifi.com/tech/archives/2007/08/21/the_delorean_is.htmlThe DeLorean is making a comeback in 2008Good news for wealthy, impractical Back to the Future fans: the DeLorean is making a comeback. With manufacturing beginning at the end of this year, the DeLorean should be for sale in the first quarter of next year for a projected price of $57,500. As cool as this is, you've gotta wonder if there's any way buying a new DeLorean could not be disappointing. After all, there's no flux capacitor, no Mr. Fusion, and no ability to fly. It's just a car from a sweet movie that's just as impractical as it was 25 years ago. But hey, you can't help loving some things, can you? We'll see if we suddenly see an influx of DeLoreans on the road come next summer. — Adam Frucci

Yea Tony said something about this a couple weeks ago and Mancow mentioned it last week as well. Good to see them come back, but at a cost. Now how will this effect the collector market?
On a side note whats with the guy driveing with the piece of Chevy shirt on? Sweet Cuda in the backdrop to.

I've been reading the discussion on this news on the DeLorean groups here and there (it's not as big a topic as you'd think though). I'm not too keen on the idea. They're only going to make like 15 or so cars per year, but they're using the original stock parts up to make them! So us original owners might eventually be out of luck if certain parts run out, or the price on the rarer parts might go up considerably. Also these new DeLoreans won't have a a VIN plate, they'll be sold as kit cars instead. I think my friend John/Steelskin said it best. It'd be an army of soul-less DeLoreans! Also, the price is pretty steep too. You can get a very good original DeLorean for about $20,000. I think the new ones will have the upgraded engines though, so that's one plus.
The author of that blog seems like a jerk. Not everyone WANTS a DeLorean with all the time machine components on it. I admit that the main reason we bought the car was because of our love of Back to the Future, but after awhile we became fans of the car in and of itself. I'd consider putting a flux capacitor in the back seat along with a few other props, but I could never see myself giving it the full time machine treatment. I don't like the guys claim that the car is impractical, either. It's got some highly useful and innovative features! He was probably trying to be overly edgy for the sake of entertainment value.

Kit cars make sense. I was wondering how they would get around emissions. Whats the news on the updated motor?

I'm not totally up on the details, but I hear it increases the horse power from 130 up closer to 200. If the new DeLoreans also have the stainless steel frame, then the $57,000 price tag would look a lot better. A stainless steel frame runs $10,000 on its own!!
