I will always remember the feelings that came over me September 11th 2001. I was home where I currently line on leave preparing for a routine deployment on September 18th onboard CVN 71. We where to deploy to the Med. I still had 3 days of leave remaining when the attacks came. At first I didn't know what to do. I called the squadron to find out if we had been recalled back from leave. My Master Chief said to continue enjoying leave and rest up. All we knew is the deployment was to continue on schedule, but our destination was still unknown. For the deployment moral was higher then it could be. All we wanted to do was get revenge. At the same time a nation became united. Several records where broken that deployment as well as new standards created. We served 158 days consecutive at sea. That record still stands as most consecutive days at sea without port for any vessel. This was just part of my story. Everyone has one. Where were you? I will never forget!

Mine was pretty boring. I was actually sleeping when they planes hit the towers, but after the second one hit, my mom (who just so happened to have the day off work) came upstairs and woke me up telling me I had to check this out! I sat there watching the replays of the planes, when the first tower came crashing down and couldn't believe it. It was so surreal. I mean, I didn't feel like it was real, since it didn't really effect me directly, but at the same time, I was in awe watching what was going on.. trying to tell myself this is really going on in our country right now!
Like one of my friends said, this is the JFK of our times. I am sure we will be telling our grandkids where we were on 9/11

I had the day off of work and and was getting ready to go run some errands. I was in my room when my mom yelled at me to come watch this. We were watching it as the First tower was on fire and then we seen the second plane hit. It was so unbelievable that none of my errands got done. we sat there all day watching the coverage and my dads work let them off early so he came home to watch it with us. We couldnt believe this was happening. SO thats my story. I was at home all day watching the coverage and everything.
