I first created this thread in December of 2010 to let others know about Stanford and the Folding@Home project. I have decided to make this a thread about about how I am contributing to the project. It will still have a little info about the F@H project as well as a link to the Stanford site, but from this point on it will be used a log for my contributions to the project. In this thread you will find a post on why I fold as well as a post on the hardware that I have devoted to the project.

What is Folding@Home Folding@home is a distributed computing project -- people from throughout the world download and run software to band together to make one of the largest supercomputers in the world. Every computer takes the project closer to our goals. Folding@home uses novel computational methods coupled to distributed computing, to simulate problems millions of times more challenging than previously achieved. Protein folding is linked to disease, such as Alzheimer's, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many CancersWhen proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious consequences, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes. What is protein folding?Proteins are biology's workhorses -- its "nanomachines." Before proteins can carry out these important functions, they assemble themselves, or "fold." The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, in many ways remains a mystery. Why I Fold I first got into F@H back in April. I read Maximum PC Magazine every month and they were talking about F@H and how they were looking to cure disease. So I joind the Maximum PC team (Team #11108) and started folding. As time went by I stopped folding for a bit. One day late last month I was looking in to F@H again and I noticed that one of the diseases they they were trying to cure was Alzheimer's. Before my Grandfather passed away back in 2000, he suffered from that disease. By the time he passed away, he did not know anyone. So now I have made it a mission of mine to help F@H in there mission. Every computer in my house is folding. I am also in the process of upgrading my computers so that they can fold faster. So if you know/known someone who has suffered from Alzheimer's or one of the other diseases listed above, join the fight. Download the client, create a user name and join a team. I am a member of team 11108. If you want to get involved, but are not sure what to do. Post a comment here or send me a PM, I will be happy to help.
