When I bought the season one set about 4-5 years ago it was around $50 I like the price of $30 but unlike mine it doesn't have extras

I am not big on extras anyways. I just hope they are better quality then the Rhino ones.

The Rhino ones were, in a word, garbage. I've been hoping for something like this since we saw the new release of Transformers The Movie on DVD. Granted, this isn't from the same studio (It looks like it is Vivendi for the new release). But anything would look good compared to the Rhino release of the movie circa 2000. It was absolutely pathetic. I believe Rhino went to the 35mm film masters rather than 1" broadcast masters for the TV series (it even gets mentioned in the extras on the disc). While that might sound great for reasons of color and clarity (I believe that is what Rhino claimed as an advantage), it also meant that a large amount of episodes have huge errors. While G1 animation wasn't perfect, The Rhino discs added "new" errors everywhere because they used footage before the quality control stepped in and made corrections before creating the 1" broadcast masters used for TV back in the day. Film and video have a different frame count per second, and certain steps have to be made when converting film to video. Rhino didn't do this properly, and there are a lot of jagged lines that appear on most episodes because of it. While the 1" broadcast masters might not look as good, they do provide a more polished version of the episodes. I would hope that should Vivendi (or whoever it is) do a new version that they use technology and their editing skills to create a newly refined version of G1. By the way - Here is a link to a user-made list of issues with the Rhino discs that were *Rhino's* fault. Did G1 have animation errors? Sure. But not as many as you think. Here are all the differences *One* person documented for the original Season 1 release of G1. It's pretty pathetic how many problems are present - groups.google.com/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/2ecb7b1e26813246?pli=1I look forward to the new release. I hope we get more details on it soon.

I never knew about those issues with the Rhino stuff.
On a side note I am hoping for a release of GI Joe in the near future as well. By the way, what happened to Sony owning the library? I have never heard of this new company.
