Some Knight Rider spoilers in here. I have been following the new Knight Rider. I don't know of anyone else doing so, but you guys may want to watch on Jan 21st. Knight Rider fan site Knight Rider Online is now reporting on their site that the actor best know for giving voice to the original Optimus Prime as well as the current movie Optimus Prime, will reprise his role as KARR in the new series of Knight Rider. The episode is called Knight To King's Pawn and will air on NBC on January 21st. The official synopsis can also be found on their site. Beware before reading the following text, as they do contain spoilers for upcoming episodes, which will resume to air on December 31st. The following has been taken directly from the synopsis page from www.knightrideronline.comTIME TO FIGHT BACK--Sarah is not coping well with her father's death and decides to leave town. Concerned, Mike goes looking for her and in return gets the answers he has been searching for about his past. Meanwhile, the NSA has decided to dismantle the SSC now that Dr. Graiman is dead and they can then move forward with KITT's nemesis KARR. With Torres' permission they take out KITT's chip that contains his personality and memories and place it in KARR. Upset by what has happened, Mike, Sarah, Billy and Zoe devise a plan to find where KITT has been taken and get him up and running and destroy the evil KARR once and for all.

I saw a little bit of Knight Rider's official series opener (having watched the pilot) and said "ehhh...no. This sucks."
After reading your write-up, and then seeing the following on TVguide/ENI....I may give it another chance.
The following may contain spoilers.
-----
Knight Rider is changing gears for the back half of the season.
Recently granted a full season by NBC, the drama is now out to finish its freshman year on a high by undergoing a major reboot. Rider is set to dump three regulars — Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Yancey Arias and Bruce Davison — after the initial 13 episodes and will revamp the show to draw more parallels to its '80s original, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
"It's a reboot," Gary Scott Thompson, executive producer/showrunner, said. "We're moving away from the terrorist-of-the-week formula and closer to the original, making it a show about a man and his car going out and helping more regular people, everymen."
Currently registering modest ratings, the "new" (and maybe improved) Rider will kick off as a two-parter in January behind an NFL Sunday night football game in an effort to buoy its ratings. The second part will air the following Wednesday.
Despite the departure of three stars, which Thompson says was only a result of a change in creative direction, there are no plans to add new regulars. Instead, the show will focus on the remaining characters — Mike (Justin Bruening), Sarah (Deanna Russo), Billy (Paul Campbell), Zoe (Smith Cho) and KITT — and will look into stunt guest casting.

I've seen the new show a few times now and I think it's awful. I can appreciate what they're trying to do, bringing back the oldschool style episodic/formulaic action show, but I think the execution is just lame and way too cheesy. One episode featured KITT on fire for about 15 minutes (horrible CGI fire no less), with the main characters having to strip down piece by piece in order to cool their bodies off. Then after they finally get out of the car and are unconsious, there's nary a sweatdrop on them! Really weak sauce. If this was the old show, KITT would've had the fire out in seconds (and I'm not even a big fan of the original show).
Also, the idiotic banter between all the characters at HQ was getting really annoying. I'm glad they're axing most of them. Hopefully these changes will improve the show, but I'm pretty skeptical. So they got rid of the Dr, but they kept the annoying asian girl? Does not bode well...
But if Peter Cullen is going to reprise his role as KARR (as is being reported), I'll definitely be checking that out! =)

Its amazing how evil Cullen can make Primes voice sound. In just 3 words he made KARR sound like pure evil. "KITT must die!"

Hey, the man knows his evil inflections! > ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I always loved how the imposter Optimus sounded in the Megatron's Master Plan two-parter. His evil laugh never fails to amuse me.

Looks like I could've just recorded the last 10 minutes and saved me some time fast-forwarding. I was under the impression that KARR would be active most of the episode, but you don't even hear Peter Cullen till near the end! This ep has definitely not swayed my opinion of the show. It was great to hear Cullen in prime time (no pun intended), but KARR was destroyed way too easy. Oh, and he looked just like "Robocop 2" in robot mode.
I think this was just a last ditch effort to rope in new viewers, because the show is on the verge of cancellation.
