Scout.
The warm feeling that the original 1984 characters give is unexplainable. Hound is no exception. He saw quite a bit of screen time early on, and Spike cruised around in Hound just like he did Bumblebee. If you could ever have a warm-hearted, Army-guy Transformer (those words have never been strung together like that), you would get Hound. He is just a wonderful treat to the first year of Transformers.

I never had a Hound when I was little. I thought his character was neat back then, but I didn’t really grow an appreciation for him until my adult years when I saw what he added to the show. I don’t think any of my friends had Hound either. Boy, were we missing out.
Toy Facts:
Hound is a little guy. A lot of people don’t realize how small he is until they see him – especially when they see him next to other Transformers of the time. The facial likeness and overall build of Hound is pretty sound. He looks very similar to the cartoon in terms of general proportions. His entire back end of the jeep is green-painted metal. Therefore despite his size, he is a pretty solid toy.
The chrome present on the jeep and accessories, the green of the jeep, and the stickers applied add a certain elegance to him. The green says “blend in” while the chrome says “stand out.” This formula adds a cornerstone to the 1984 Transformers line. Chrome is present in the legs, chest, and abdomen as well as parts of the front of the jeep. The accessories alone have chrome on the missiles, launcher, machine gun, and hologram gun.
Disappointments:
It isn’t a perfect world, and Hound has some faults. I think the number one thing a lot of people complain about is the fact that his arms are almost nonexistent. They are pretty short, but their location in relation to his body is pretty accurate. His chest is made from the front of the Jeep, and therefore his arms are pretty hidden. His arms are actually about the same size as Mirage’s, but he just doesn’t have any shoulders.
Another thing is that he is indeed a pretty small Transformer. If you stand Bumblebee in front of him with both Transformers in robot mode, Bumblebee’s height is about halfway up Hound’s chest.
Neither the arm length nor size of Hound bothers me, but perhaps I shouldn’t have him standing next to Tracks of all people.

Collecting Hound:
If you buy a Hound without any accessories, I hope you get him for free. Accessories alone can run you $50 easily, and that is if you don’t want all three missiles. The gas can and spare tire aren’t too cheap, and each one can run you about $15. Chrome wear should be checked on the missiles, missile launcher, machine gun, and hologram gun.
The actual Hound Transformer has many things which should be inspected. It is highly likely that both side view mirrors for Hound will be missing. Check to make sure they are there. Even if they are there, you sill have to check them for chrome wear. The front of the jeep, legs and chest should be checked for chrome wear as well.
Check all joints to see if they are loose. Remember that the seats fold together for transformation, and therefore both seats should be checked to make sure they aren’t loose. Hounds head
The rear area of the jeep which makes Hound’s legs is made of metal. Carefully inspect it for paint loss. Remember that dust and dirt can sometimes mask chipped paint.
Sometimes it is easy to forget that there are “doors” on Hound. Make sure they are there. While you are in that area, check to scratches on the windshield.
Miscellaneous Information:
There is no G2 version of Hound.
The copyright for Hound is located on the bottom of the Jeep, underneath the front end. The rubsign is located at the front of the jeep, on top of the hood, and on the passenger side.
Hound was a one of a kind mold for the U.S. transformer releases in the original Transformers era. He was not repainted during the original release. With how great a character he was in the show as well as the interesting Transformation and all the accessories he has, Hound is a must own.
