While I have not really paid that close attention to the Star Wars busts released by Gentle Giant, I am a member of the Gentle Giant collectors club. To those of you unfamiliar with Gentle Giant, they have the rights to several different lines - including Star Wars. Of course, who doesn't have the rights to Star Wars in the world of toys? Being a member of the Collector's Club gave me the ability to purchase one of the con exclusives at a fair price. I was somewhat interested in the Mara Jade bust, and I jumped at the opportunity to purchase her bust....errr....you know what I mean. ![](http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b40/estation/Maraj.jpg) Mara Jade is a Star Wars "Expanded Universe (EU)" character that originally appeared in the Timothy Zahn trilogy of novels released in the early 1990s. She quickly developed a following (Remember these two terms: "Lightsaber-wielding female" and "fanboy") and has been developed and well-ingrained into the Star Wars novel-based universe. Gentle Giant has made several mini-busts based on characters from the Star Wars Universe. While there is no on-screen character of Mara Jade to compare G.G's mini-bust to (cry me a river), they did the next best thing. The model in the picture above, Shannon McRandle, was used to represent Mara in the Star Wars collectible card game. Gentle Giant actually brought her in and did a body scan in order to create the mini bust. The results, in my mind, were outstanding. Without any further delay (you probably skipped my writing anyway), here is Mara Jade as represented by Gentle Giant & Shannon McRandle: ![](http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b40/estation/mara3.jpg) ![](http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b40/estation/mara2.jpg) ![](http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b40/estation/mara1.jpg)

First let me add that is was the Decipher CCG, not the WotC game. (Personal issue point .....)
For me, the attraction is more than just female with a lightsaber. In the six novels, one short story, and a 4-issue comic mini-series I have read by Zahn that include her, it is the character that makes her someone who can be considered a true part of the original trilogy.
For anyone who hasn't read the Star Wars novels, I highly recommend the Zahn trilogy - Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command - which were published in 95 and 96 as the first ever post-RotJ novels. While other SW authors are debated, Timothy Zahn is unanimously (in my experience) considered to be the best SW novel writer out there (which says a lot, given the standard fanboy divisions in SW fandom).

Oh I totally agree that her character is written well, but I feel that you have to stereotype in order to mostly explain her cult fan following.
