I would suggest enclosed glass shelving to keep the dust down (eg. store display style). Be sure that any lights you use have uv filters on them. These are not too difficult to find nowdays check your local Lowe's or Home Depot and talk to a lighting specialist, they will know what you need. Depending on the size of the room and the size of your collection (ongoing) I would have at least one display in the center of the room that was glass all the way around with glass shelves. This would give you a place for special pieces that you want to showcase.
You can find these kind of display cabinets at stores that are going out of business for really cheap or you can search for store-front companies that make them and buy them new or custom. I personally, would try to build it myself, but I don't know how handy you are and it is somewhat difficult. If you are interested in doing it yourself, I could come up with a few design sketches for you to look at. I'd even be able to make suggestions on lighting positions in the room to accent the collection.
Note: If you build the cabinets yourself depending on how you support the shelving you can use plexi-glass instead of real glass for the shelves and doors. This will cut down the cost and potential breaking hazards.

I've not used LED personally, but I have heard good things about it. Do you have the dementions of the room? I'll need those to get started.

I'm starting to work on the layout. Once you respond to my questions I'll finish it up.
Questions:
What are the opening measurements for the window and door? How tall is the window and how high is it off of the floor?
Do you have posters or pictures that you are wanting to display? How much wall-space will be needed?
What kind of tools do you have access to? Are rentals available in your area?
Are you interested in doing most of the work yourself to ease the budget or would you rather have someone else do it for you?

Is the door a left opening or a right opening? Do you care/does it matter?

DC, here's a rough-out of the floor plan. (to scale using approximate measurements) The desk under the window is and optional addition. I thought it might be useful to have a dedicated place to work on repaints/repairs/zombies/etc... ![](http://img44.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/coffee.gif) I'll add in the positions for recessed lighting by hand and scan in some sketches of lateral views later. Let me know if there is anything you want to change. If anyone else has an opinion about the arrangement, please comment. I'm not looking at this from the postion of someone with a collection of my own, so if you have any ideas on how this could work better, let me know! ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v98/rachel_renee/Toyroomlayout.jpg)

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with your layout. Here are my concerns, 1. Never face a desk so that your back is to the door. Even if you are facing the window. It creates a feeling of seclusion to people entering. What I would do is put the desk caddy corner so that you are facing the door yet still get the effect of the window.
2. I love the idea of a table, however the size of the room does not warrent one. It will greatly decrease the size of the room from a visual standpoint. You have a desk. You don't need a table.
One question I have is the shelves. Are they the same higth all the way around the room?
As far as paint goes. Use a deep blue either on all walls or just the one with the door. Mabey find a blue that has kind of a cosmic feel.

It creates a feeling of seclusion to people entering. What I would do is put the desk caddy corner so that you are facing the door yet still get the effect of the window. I put the desk under the window so that he would have a place for working on the figures, taking various pictures, etc. It is not intended to be a place to be sitting all the time, more like a workbench when it's needed. The size of his collection warrents having as much shelf space as possible and putting the desk in a corner would be counter-productive to that end. 2. I love the idea of a table, however the size of the room does not warrent one. It will greatly decrease the size of the room from a visual standpoint. You have a desk. You don't need a table. It isn't a table. It is a glass display case similar to these. It wouldn't be as big as I made it. I simply allowed for more room than it would actually need. ![](http://images.channeladvisor.com/Sell/SSProfiles/40000092/Images/MILLION$$HOUSE%20150.jpg) One question I have is the shelves. Are they the same higth all the way around the room? That isn't decided yet. I'm still working on how much room for wall display he is going to need. The layout is still in the planning stages and a bit vague because you can only see the above view. I am currently working on sketches for the side elevations.
