I've been able to fix my spyware problem, but now I have a new one...I can't open anything in a new window, and I can't access certain sites (photobucket, yahoo, tni forums, etc.). Any ideas?

Crud, Destro. That's rough.
So I guess when you say you got rid of spyware, you ran ad-aware and spybot?
Questions:
What Anti-Virus software do you run? Do you have a firewall? How bad was your spyware problem & what state was your web browser in? Which web browser do you use? Do you use Windows XP? Do you have service pack 2? Have you updated the latest versions of your windows software with Windows Update?

I use adaware, spybot, and spyware blaster. I don't have a firewall. My spyware problem is/was pretty bad; I couldn't access hotmail at times and I would get redirected from tni to search engines. I use internet explorer and windows xp. I don't think I have service pack 2, and I haven't updated my version of windows. Comps weren't made for english majors!

Now I can't even use the 'net at my house for some reason. I can connect, but then when I try to get a webpage I get a "downloading file" message and it won't load. I tried opening the file to explorer, but that didn't work.

Mmm. You could have a virus. Either that or the spyware is so bad...you can't get traditional programs to clean it out properly.
go to mcafee.com and have it can for a virus. I don't think it can clean your system of one - but it can tell you.
Also - go to my computer. Click on Tools -> Folder Options. Click the view tab and under "Hidden files and folders" click the radio button for "Show hidden files and folders" Press ok on everything to get back to the my computer window.
This will do the obvious and show files you normally hide. Now go to C:\ drive and go into Documents and Settings. Once you are in there, go into your userid that you use for windows. (Probably your name) Then go into local settings and then temp.
Highlight all the files in there and delete them. Some files may say "You cannot delete me" - that is fine...clean out what you can.
Ultimately, you would want to boot safe mode and try to remove those other files. (if any of them cannot be deleted)
Now go

Last night I tried what you suggested ck, but it's still not working. Do you think I'll need to buy some antivirus and/or antispyware software?

Id recommmend you the Panda Titanium antivirus thats what I have and I had the same problem youre having. When I got into hotmail, to check my emails, some program redirected it to a search engine that had a search for spyware softwares and such.

What the heck? Part of my message got cut off from earlier. I was going to tell you somewhere else to go on your H.D. ....I think. I didn't mean it to sound like I just handed you a sword and a shield and sent you off on a mission.
"Now go!" said the old man.
In any case - let us know how things are doing.

Yeah, is kinda a search engine and a pop up window everytime you open the internet explorer. I had to erase everything and install windows xp again, printer, office, etc.

Goodness - well if you are willing to do that, there is nothing wrong with a good ol' reinstall.
However you want to make sure you protect your installation as best you can. Personally, I would recommend using a router and running Norton Antivirus 2005 (or McAfee is that is your thing).

I haven't been around lately bc of my computer problems, but I think they'll be over soon; I just ordered a new computer. I've been thinking of getting a new one anyway, since I've had my current one for over two years.

Norton or McAfee. They are mainstream - I know there are better antivirus scanners out there that nobody has heard of - but I use Norton Antivirus 2005 and really like it.

I'll put in the personal reference for McAfee, but I have no problems with Norton Anitvirus.
