...with online multiplayer play! Earlier this month, it was announced that Street Fighter 2 Hyper Fighting would be released for the X-box 360 (available for download via X-box Live -> Arcade -> Coin-Op, I believe). Players can play each other online as well as deal with quarters. Meaning you can watch two people play and put your "virtual quarter" on the "virtual machine" and virtually say "I got next." Wow! This sounds awesome. I guess I'll have to brush up on my Street Fighting skills. ...Destro? You got a 360 yet?

Sounds fun, and I like the series of games, but aint it about time for them to move on from SF 2 to SF 3?

Oh - they did that awhile back, but the 360 has "coin-op classics" you can download and play multiplayer. So they went with a classic street fighter. Like last night, I picked up Smash TV and was playing it multiplayer. Joust is another one out there for example.

Nope, no 360 for me; honestly, I don't play video games enough for it to be worthwhile; I get my sf fix from my super nes and gameboy (sf alpha 3). I would like to play the new psp version though.

Who was your original 8 character, and who are all of your characters?

Who was your original 8 character, and who are all of your characters? Chun li is my #1 of course (actually, truth be told, my favorite character in the comic/story part of sf2 is Sagat. I'm not that great w/ him in the game though). I also use guile quite a bit. After that, bison and vega. I don't really use the newer ones as much bc I don't play enough to learn all their moves. You?

I was a Chun-Li man before I even put my hands on the game. (Here comes a fun story from CK @ Energon Station) A friend told me about this new game "Street Fighter 2" one week back in my early school days. I was like "so like how do you progress through the game?" When he said you have to beat the eight characters then four bosses, I thought it was pretty short. It was the whole "can't get over not having LEVELs in an arcade game!" I didn't realize how things worked until we made the first big trip. That was the first and last (err...maybe second to last) time I made a trip to an arcade at 7:30 a.m. The arcade we hit-up was the second arcade at the mall. It was more of a niche arcade. It isn't there anymore. (Actually - neither of them are) It was SO much fun hitting up the arcade back then. Any case - date: ~1991. (Probably March since it looks like that was when it originally came out) We are on the way to the arcade to play this "new game" my friend has been talking about. I was riding in the backseat. He tossed me this magazine - Electronic Gaming Monthly, maybe? And it had all the moves. How on EARTH could you do all those moves? "Well...there are six buttons" "SIX BUTTONS?!" (this was unheard of). "Dude - there's a chick in the game?" (this was also unheard of) "Yep" Wow. She was the speedy one. She was a chick & top it off with the fact she was blue. (I like blue - simple enough) Chun-Li it is! It's interesting because I actually picked up her arcade counterpart's fighting style due to her speed. Always leaping, jumping off the walls. Use the speed as a skill. This frustrated my friends because their natural instinct would be to pattern their moves like they would for fighting the simplistic arcade A.I. Chun-Li, but instead they got the Super Ultra Hyper Intelligent CK Chun-Li in her place. And honestly - I stuck with her the whole time. I think my phase was over after the New Challengers was released. My secondary character once I had the SNES home version was Ryu. Interesting in that - I believe that Street Fighter 2 is THE pinnacle arcade game for two opposing reasons - 1: It created one of the greatest "rushes" of gamers to an arcade in history. (Arcade release) 2: It began the downfall of arcade machines (home release - SNES & Genesis) Dang it...now I am going to talk myself into buying that statue or something.

Go for it ck!! Cool story too. Crazy as it sounds, I don't think I played sf2 in the arcade until the snes version came out; I knew of the game, but I didn't go to the arcade much (the good ol nes was all I needed ). I do remember my first time playing the snes version at wm; I begged my mom to take me back so I could play some more (I didn't have a snes at the time, just a nes and a genesis). I did know some of the moves from nintendo power so I wasn't bad starting off, and I eventually bought a super nes, the first sf, then turbo, and I had the strategy guide for the first snes one and the arcade champ edition. That's where I learned about the characters and that's partially the reason sagat and chun li became my favorites. I also liked the speed characters, and the fact that she was one of very few females in video games didn't hurt either.

Man - just writing that story brought up so many memories. People who i "knew" back in my school days that weren't really my friends...but i would see them at the local arcade & we'd talk street fighter. Good times.
There are so many things I wish I could go back and experience again.

I was introduced to SF2 on the Championship edition at the Burger King next door to our church. A group of us would slip over there between activities as much as possible.
My favorites quickly grew to be Vega and Ken, though I also messed around a bit with Ryu, E Honda, Bison, and Chun Li. All of us took turns running the cheese victories with Bison - either using perfectly timed Torpedo Drills (i think that is what the move was called, been a while) to hit just as the other person was getting back on their feet or else using the slide kick to keep 'em in the corner and again take 'em down just as they regained their feet.

Flaming Torpedo. Although now I think it might be the psycho crusher, not sure. And yea ce bison is super cheesy. ;D
