What would cause initial boot times to slow down? When I got this thing the Gateway window would only be up for like 5 seconds. Now it takes to minutes plus just to get past that to windows startup. Any help would be apriciated in speeding this old machine back up.

Well changes over time can increase boot duration. Main things to avoid are: 1: Fragmentation 2: Number of installed fonts 3: Lack of proper driver updates 4: Outdated registry entries. Pick up Tune Up utilities from www.tune-up.com. They have a free trial version of 2004. Run it and then choose the registry cleaner.

Another thing that you can do is click you start button and click on RUN. When the RUN screan opens, type MSCONFIG. When the MSCONGIF utility opens, click the start up tab and make sure that you dont have a crap load of programs on start up. Just uncheck the boc next to the ones that dont need to start up and reboot.
Examples of programs that may be in start up:
MS Office Quicktime iTunes Easy CD Creator And other such applications.

I have used the free version before. It does work great. I forgot to get it a while back. This will be something I will get with my tax check. Thanks!
