Ok, I realize the degree of dumbness this is, but I can't find the answer anywhere, and I can't look in our manual because I dunno where Nate put it, but Can you play DVD's on the Wii? I've been wondering this for a while, since Abby wants to watch movies and I don't know if I need to hook up the DVD player too, or if I can use that! I'm scared to just pop in a DVD to see if it works, because I don't want to break the Wii.. Soo that's my dumb question of the day!

It cannot play DVDs. Nintendo has said they plan on integrating DVD playback in the next version of the Wii.

There are conflicting reports out there. Nintendo's Wii website still says :
"Q: Can the Wii console playback music CDs and DVDs? A: The Wii console released in the end of 2006 does not have the feature to playback music CDs or DVDs."
Err? They may still consider it a possibility, but I imagine with Wii sales going the way they are that DVD playback isn't really that much of an issue. If they were going to integrate it this year, I think we in the states would know by now or about right now.
There are some hacks out there (buy a modchip, download some software, etc....) to get DVD playback on a Wii, but it just isn't worth it. If this were 1998 & DVD was still relatively new, I could see it being worth while.
