Well things are comming to pass. I have my new wizbang fast smoking computer built. In a few weeks I'll be ordering my flat pannel 20" monitor, and next Thursday they are comming to hook up the cable modem. So for all of those who scoffed about it <ahem>, the old Commander is upgrading after years of talking about it! It is exciting times for me. The new system is just making me want to cry it's so fast compared to my 6 year old dinosaur or Diobot if you will with dial up. I'll still be on the old computer internet wise until the cable modem gets hooked up next week. Then it's no holds bard! ;D Then I'll be able to keep up with and not get the treatment from you turkies, and you know who you are.

Jack - It is imperative that you make sure you have good anti-virus software and a firewall before you go high bandwidth. I would recommend staying away from internet explorer if you can. Opinions always vary on this matter, but here are mine - Download the firefox web browser @ www.mozilla.com/firefox/ and use it instead of internet explorer. This reduces the possibility of acquiring spyware quite a bit. Get an anti-virus program like Avast www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html It is free for home users. You have to "register" your name with them...but it costs nothing. Register to fully activate the program once you get it installed. Finally, while firewall software is good....it is even better if you have a hardware router. You should be able to get a single port router (Linksys brand for example) fairly cheap. If you have any questions, please ask. It is definitely a good idea to get secure *before* something bad happens (or before you even get high bandwidth). Don't ruin the new computer! And....congratulations.

I agree with CK on this. I have a hardware firewall, linksys, and it has worked very well. I also use and recommend firefox 1.5. As for antivirus. I use AVG. It is also free and is updated an a regular basis. You can compair the two and see what you like best. Here is the link: free.grisoft.com/doc/Get+AVG+FREE/lng/us/tpl/v5
