Don't want to see the new one. Johnny Depp is way too freaky, and the oompa loompas are just wrong ......

Uhh....how can you justify voting if you haven't seen both of them?
New one blows the old one away easy. It makes it look tired and very slow. Depp nails Wonka very well & pretty much steals the show. That said, the atmosphere, songs, colors, and each crazy kid personality help round out the film as a whole. A lot of the humor is unique (grandpa dozing off when Charlie runs off to buy another bar)
This film probably won't win best picture, but I definitely think that it has a chance at a lot of the technical awards out there. What a great movie.

What a great movie. My feelings are the exact opposite; I think compared to the old movie the new version seems tired and almost pointless. I liked the old oompa loompa songs better (I could actually understand what they were saying), and the fact that the beginning of the original built up charlie's background more (he's a good kid, but poor, etc.). I do like seeing Wonka's father in this one, and it shows why he became a candyman, and also simply bc Christopher Lee is awesome. Other than that, I think the original beats the remake in pretty much every way.

Well - if you want to go by the internet movie database, I think there is only like a 0.1 difference between them. I guess it is a matter of taste - but I think both are done well from the big picture standpoint. My compare of the two had me leaning toward the newer one because I like the style. Hey - I just picked up edward Scissorhands, so you know where I stand with Depp and Burton.
