Yep! Fury is black and voiced by Andre Ware (yes!) in the Ultimate Avengers movies.
Sam Jackson could most likely pull off the character without problems.

This role is too close to his XXX role. It is basically the same thing..he would just have a different name.

I can't get into the whole Nick Fury of old vs the Nick Fury of late arguement without sounding a whole lot like the G1 is great everything else stinks one.

I hope that it is more than just a black vs. white argument.

Considering David Hasselhoff played Nick Fury and Lisa Rinna played his second in command, Samuel L, would definitely be a much better choice for fury....

I hope that it is more than just a black vs. white argument. It has nothing to do with Black vs white. It has to do with trying to change a classic to make it more appealing to present day. Hence the comparison to some peoples love of G1 and their hatred to anything since.

I really detest the general thought that all that love G1 and dislike the newer series do so because they are trying to take something classic and ruin it. I am all about new Transformers series. I just want them to make one that doesn't suck.
So if that isn't the case, did they change the character of Nick Fury quite a bit?

Nick Fury originally started out in Sgt Fury and his Howling Commandos. He was a gritty, crusty, John Wayne like war hero in World War II. In the 70's he took the reigns of SHIELD, a government funded secret agentcy. Kind of a CIA on steroids. I guess what I am saying is I want a Nick Fury that is not going to suck

I feel like i am writing a third grade essay here. I think Sam Jackson is very very very very very very very very very (stops to count the words) wrong for the part of Nick Fury ;D
If you want the big reason, yeah it is beause he is black. You know what though I would say the same thing if they tried to make Blade, Black Panther, Cyborg, or Power Man into a white guy. Sam Jackson is a terrific actor. Loved him in Die Hard 3, I think he will be great in that goofy snakes movie (which I am almost excited to see) and felt bad for him when he couldn't use any of his acting skills in the Star Wars prequals. He just does not fit the role of John Wayne/Nick Fury. Nor does Tom Cruise, Will Ferral, Collin Ferral, Jammie Foxx, Liam Niesson, or teddy the wonder lizard.
Apperently in some "Ultimate" universe they made Fury black, along with Colosus gay, and a bunch of other changes to classic Marvel characters. I believe in another thread you did not object to new Transformers just do something original. I am the same way with superheroes. Taking a character that has been around for decades and changing his skin color is not original, visionary, or what ever you want to call it. It reallly shows a lack of creativity in todays comic industry. Come up with something new make Jim Powers, Agent of SWORD or something and pattern that after Sam.
