www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3i1f2de64a1d24bd5585bf89b0691d2011 Sounds interesting, but I think a live-action version of Robotech would only work if it was in the form of a trilogy of movies, or at least a pair. You just can't pack all the twists and turns of Macross into a single flick, imo. Take Rick Hunter's love life for instance. I think the love triangle aspect would be pretty lame if he met both characters, courted with both, and then picked one, all by the end of one movie. Looks like Tobey Maguire wants to star in the lead role too. I could see it a few years ago, but I think he's getting a bit too old to play Rick now (who's supposed to be in his late teens when Macross begins). Oh well, we'll see what happens. As long as they use the old-style valkyries (doubtful), I'd be a happy camper.

Oh.... wow. (Man...the next ESR episode just keeps getting longer and longer (in theory). )
This is hard to believe. It seems too....well perfect. Not that I am sitting here in total agreement on everything, but....seriously? A Robotech movie? And the lead role goes to a highly successful actor? Seems a little fabricated.
But what if it is true? I'll have to see what the official website says about it when I get the chance.
The bottom line is this - I would personally love to see a live action Robotech TV series on network TV. I mean so long as we can dream, I want the cake AND the ice cream.
A movie would be fun, but like Star Trek....Robotech was made for the ongoing drama over a series of episodes.

Holy cow...multiple sites are confirming this and there is an official discussion thread on Robotech.com.
Pinch me.
