I know we don't discuss the next generation format war here on Energon Station, but I thought I would let you know of some new developments that have happened over the past 24 hours. Yesterday (August 20th), Paramount announced that they would be dropping support for Blu-ray disc in favor of HD-DVD. Most people (including myself) found this to be a move to prolong a format war that should be nearing the end of its life with Blu-ray outselling HD-DVD 2:1. The juicy details include a $150 million payoff to Paramount to support to format. Source: N.Y TimesThis announcement does not include Spielberg films. A few hours later, Fox announced 29 Blu-ray titles after they had been holding out. Today, Michael Bay said the following: "I want people to see my movies in the best formats possible. For them to deny people who have Blu-ray sucks! They were progressive by having two formats. No Transformers 2 for me!" Source: www.shootfortheedit.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2299Lots of news will probably develop throughout the rest of the week. Personally, I wish director backlash would cause Paramount to think again.

I sincerely hope not. He tends to stick to his guns whenever something bothers him. This bothers him. I think it really depends on how serious Paramount is. From their point of view, they could grab joe director for the Transformers franchise and know that anyone would go see it.
Since Bay has a history of saying something and doing it, I hope Paramount starts listening to him & for that matter any of the directors (and consumers) that complain. Perhaps Paramount could break the HD-DVD deal.

From Nelson at Shoot for the edit.
I spoke to Michael a few minutes ago.
He said he just wants people to know that we should be able to view his movies in the format of our choice. Period.
Nothing more, nothing less.

While I'm a big supporter of the tf film, I'm not a big fan of its director..the guy's a whiner and it gets annoying very quickly; not just this, but also his shots against murphy and others who have worked on the film are very childish.

Oh wow. Total cover-up by Bay. That's hilarious. Guess Paramount had some words with him and won.
Totally lame.

At least he admitted that he overreacted. I half-expected him to claim that everyone took his comment out of context. Funny how this was initially reported and then resolved in less than a day. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Shucks though... I was kind of hoping to see someone new direct the sequel. Ah well.
