Well the battle at the box office has begun....since there are 14 sequels slated to premiere this year and quite a few new entries...what movie do you think will end up taking the bank as the top summer movie blockbuster and why?
My pick is probably a toss up between Spiderman 3, Pirates, and Harry Potter. Spiderman 3 has a solid fan base and the last two movies have proved themselves. With the promise of several new villains in SM3, particularly venom...I think this could be the one movie that kills everything at the theatre this year. Plus the fact that it will have a couple of weeks uncontested at the box office.
Pirates, on the other hand, had a stronger showing on the second movie, so the momentum could really be at a peak frenzy. The only problem is the trailers I have seen for it are not nearly as exciting as Pirates 2. Hopefully this wil not be a Matrix situation where the last one just tanks...it would be sad for that to happen to such a great series..
Harry Potter, now that just screams cash cow. While the last time out the summer release of Harry Potter under performed vs. the rest of the films released in the fall, I think this one is by far, more anticipated, as the story line has become much more complicated and dark. Important events take place in this installment, but the fact that they cut the running time down from 2.5 hours to roughly just over 2 hours may hurt them. People feel like they are cutting pieces of the story that is relevant to the story...yet no one knows what has been cut so far...This will do well and has potential to clean up at the box office and put a stop to any forward motion Transformers may make...unfortunately for Transformers.
