Paramount is planning on changing the entire meaning of "GI Joe" in the upcoming live-action film because of poor perception of the American military in the international community. Story here. Original - G.I. ("Government Issue") Joe New - G.I.J.O.E. ("Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity") If this stays through script development and production, I am likely to boycott it on principle.

I don't know what's worse; this happening, or the fact that one could see this coming a mile away..I hate to say that, but w/ the political environment and the hatred of the US, I can see why hasbro et al would go this route in the name of profitability.
Supposedly the joe team is back to being based in the US rather than brussels, if that helps..guess we'll see.

I can understand and support having an international cast of characters (even the comics and cartoon did that!), but the whole point is that the GI Joe organization is an AMERICAN organization and not some fanciful offshoot of the UN.

I agree with Jo'Roq. With a new like "GI Joe", it's pretty hard to deny it's american beginnings. Doesn't mean it couldn't branch out from there, but I still think it should start out as a US missions force first and foremost.
I'll still give the movie a chance though. As long as they get Cobra Commander, Baroness, Destro, and Zartan right, I don't see how they can go far from wrong. *hears a train sounding its horn in the distance*...
