I am now at Botcon in Dallas - wish the con would last a week! It took 18 hours to get here. Cellular phone and land line traffic in most of the SE area of Texas has been pretty heavy. It look a lot of work to call out for me while I was on the road yesterday. It is crazy because almost all of my friends called each other to find out who was going where or who was doing what. ("Should I stay or should I go?")
Jo' and Alter_ego were on their way out of town when I was in hour number 8 or 9 of my trip. I am not quite sure how far they were going. It was kinda hard to hear at the time.
Sucks about that bus explosion.
Thank you for the prayers, Kyla.

Just a thought I'm not rying to make light of this situation but with the mass exodus to Dallas Botcon could be very busy this weekend.People who didn't wan to go because of the drive had to leave because of Rita and might use this time to take their minds off this current situation.

We made light of it all the way up to Dallas. Hahaha. We were stuck in traffic and would all be sitting in silence for awhile....then somebody would say "wow....look at all these people going to botcon....amazing..." and we would all crack up.
I hope there are a lot of people. Usually I don't like crowds, but for this sort of event it is really neat to see all the people drop in and buy all the stuff they have been looking for. Hey - the dealers certainly won't complain!

Hey all! Just wanted to report that AE and I (and family) are safely out of harm's way. We drove up to Abilene yesterday (when I talked with Ck) - 16 hours for a normally 6 hour drive, and it took the first 8 hours to go 50 miles. We are now in Midland, TX at my parents house. Current plans are for me to head back Sunday (I'm expected back to work on Monday .... ), and who goes with me depends on the reports of phone and electric availability. EDIT: corrected the milage in the first paragraph.

From what we heard talking to a few people who stayed in town, our side of Houston didn't get anything much worse than a normal thunderstorm. Rita pulled too far east at the last minute to reach too far over the city.

We made it home on Sunday evening. (in time to catch my tv shows!) The only thing that happened in the storm was at some point we lost and regained power, and there are a few limbs from the dead tree in the backyard that are down on the ground. Other than that, our house is fine.
