Hey guys! Just wanted to give you all a heads up and wish those of us in Houston and the surrounding areas good luck this weekend! There is a possibility that the storm is going to be a category 5 when it hears near the Galveston area. No matter where it hits, we are forecast to be on the North/Northeast side of the storm which is the worst side to be on.
Although Ck, Jo'/Alter_Ego, and I all live on the Northwest side of town, we have been told to expect power to be out for days, possibly weeks due to all the power lines that will be down. I think that is more a worst case scenario, but this will probably be the worst hurricane to hit us, since Carla. If we get lucky...Rita will downgrade to Cat 3, but I won't bet on it.
Just as a sound off, when your power is restored and you guys get settled...just stop by the board and drop a note that you are OK....
Good luck to all!

Hey, we haven't decided if we are gonna bug out or not. It all depends on how far south of us it looks like she is headed. If we do leave it will either be late Thurs. or early Fri. We will head north to my grandparent's home near Abilene. We'll keep you all posted.

As of 6:30 p.m. Central, I am still headed for Dallas for Botcon....dunno what time I'll get there. LOL.
I hope it veers off somewhere, but you can never be too careful when it comes to these things (especially since it is now Cat 5)

Actually, I am not taking a single thing.
(and I am not sure what I would take)
Crud! This is one of those moments where you are supposed to actually DO what you said in your "if your house was on fire and you could save one thing" posts across various boards.

Anyways. Back on topic. Make sure if you are staying behind you have plenty of supplies. Also you need an older style phone. You know. The corded type. Plenty of batteries, full gas tanks in cars and for grill. Fill the bath tubs to for water to flush toilets with. A bettery powered radio is nice as well. Make sure those generators run if you have them to. Good luck guys.

Sounds about right. I hate to say that though... The same thing happened here a couple years ago. Probably can't find batteries or flashlights anymore either...

I think there are still posibilities that Rita scale down. It happened once right here in Panama with Joan back on 1988. I hope this is the case.

Where do they live? We here in the Tampa area got a tiny amount of Rita. The far outskirts of the storm brushed us yesterday for about a half hour we got gusty wind about 40mph and some strong rain.Thats all the hurricane I want for a very long time after going throough 4 of them last year.
