Hey all - Here are the details of the Sterling Marlin #40 model kit. First, the primary painting was done with gloss gray for the chassis and ....(I just had to buy this paint) "Sterling Silver" for the body. It gives it a pretty nice gleam & therefore isn't as flat as just plain "grey." ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/40car1.jpg) Here is an early shot of the chassis with roll cage in progress. Marlin is seen here trying to get a head on things. Bwahahahaha. (You saw that one coming, didn't you?) ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/40car3.jpg) Here is a close up shot of the finished paint job of the fire suit for the figure. No sponsor decals applied yet. ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/40car4.jpg) A major thing I was disappointed in was the decals for the figure. It was near impossible to get them to go on the way you wanted. In any case, I did elect to put the driver in there and do the work on him. Here is another shot of the chassis/roll cage, etc when it is close to its final stage. I think i had the most fun painting the fire extinguisher. ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/40car5.jpg) A shot of the engine compartment before most of the front and top decals. ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/40car6.jpg) <HEAVY sigh> (but it was still fun) ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/40car2.jpg) I think there were about 67 decals. (That is the highest number I remember) And again, the final result: ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/40car7.jpg)

Looking good. Next try a more complicated paint job. IE Jeff Gordon's Dupont car or Jimmie Johnsons Lowes car etc.. Just because of the multicolor layers in the paint aps.

Those vehicles probably still use a base coat and then have a large amount of stickers.....but they may very well have multi-paint app requirements.

So whats he going to do next year when Sterling isn't in the 40 car? ![](http://img44.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/op.gif) That's yet to be determined. So I've got this race season left to be s.m.40fan. After this I'll be s.m.??fan. So that's where I'm at right now. A big state of uncertainity righ now.

lol i was waiting for Jack to see this.. you know Jack you could always come to my side and be a gordon or stewart fan LOL... just kidding... When i usually sit down and watch a race i am usually hoping for Dale Jarrett to win. i'd like to see him get a few more wins before he retires or some of the newer guys. I really wish Elliot Sadler would do some good or even Jamie McMurray. i was hoping Mark Martin and Rusty Wallce would be doing some good out there. I really wanted them to win some since they are retiring. and who knows maybe Sterling will get one or 2 wins and change his mind ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) ![](http://img8.photobucket.com/albums/v28/gunman_sr5/bouncers.gif)
