My next project is the General Lee of Dukes of Hazzard fame.
Just a sec.........
ok.
I picked up two kits for this one - one was the official AMT/Ertl General Lee model kit. It is a 2002/2004 re-release of the original 1979 model kit by MPC. It has many flaws - one of which is that it is the wrong car! (DOH!)
The car is a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T (see gunman's thread on the General Lee. The model kit for the General Lee contains a Dodge Charger 500 from 1969. I was fortunate enough to have somebody else point this out to me long before I bought the kit. That said - I still bought it, however I also purchased the Revell 1969 Dodge Charger R/T model kit. That kit is not only the correct version (or the version I prefer as there were 200 chargers used in the show), but it also is built much better than the AMT kit.
The differences can be seen in the kits below - The Charger R/T had a recessed rear window while the 500 had one that was flush with the back of the car. Differences aren't too important past that - but you can see the larger amount of flash ("flash" is a model term used to describe pieces of plastic that shouldn't be there - pieces of plastic, small strings of plastic, etc that were on the kit after it was pulled out of the mold). You can also see the general difference in quality in the plastic molds between the two kits. The Revell kit actually has you glue the windshield wipers on as well as the door handles and gas cap. The AMT General Lee kit has everything molded onto it (except the gas cap).
