Who here has at least atempted to watch a NASCAR race? SEcond part to this. Who didn't like it. The reason I ask is. I keep hearing NASCAR isn't a sport and is pointless. First thing out of my mouth usualy is. Have you at least watched one race to even atempt to understand what the drivers have to go through? Normal answer back is no. So thats how the question came up.

Well - it is generally a popular thing to insult NASCAR when one doesn't know much about it.
Same thing goes for hockey.
Neither one has the following that football, baseball or basketball do in the states. People love jumping on the bandwagon and insulting things because they can ban together and bash something.
It is just human nature.

I can't say I've watched a whole race; it just doesn't interest me. As far as nascar being a sport, I think it is. A sport is a "physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively." Well, I think that really says it. I believe some people make the argument that racing isn't really a "physical activity", but another definition of "sport" is "an activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively." (Just like an english major to pull out the definitions, eh? ) I do believe that there is a good deal of physical exertion in racing, and it is a competitive activity, thus making it a sport.

i love watching nascar races. but my idea of watching is that sunday is a lazy day so i watch bout the first 30 or so laps then take a nap. The weird thing is though is i wake up like 10 laps to go lol Ask Jeremy we will start a race then the next thing me and kira is out I def think its a sport. i mean look at the drivers after a race. they usually have sweat pouring off of them and sitting in a car that is more then 100 degrees and all u have is Very little air going across you. i look up to guys like that. i mean i couldnt imagine doing that every weekend during the SUMMER at most.I would love to get in a nascar and drive it around a track just once to see what its like. i love fast cars lol

I have been in a home where a race was on, but never actively watched one. Watching cars go around a track on tv, to me, is parallel to watching golf or tennis on tv. It holds no interest for me.
I would never say that it is not a sport, though. I have driven cars over 150 mph and it is a physical activity. The exertion required to control a vehicle at that speed is phenominal. I just don't want to watch it, and I can't take it when they crash.
