![](http://img44.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/op.gif) OK so check it out. I finally saw Superman Returns tonight. I've always liked Superman. Like most of you on the board I grew up with Christopher Reeve as Superman. With C Reeve doing such a great job playing the character it's hard to pictuer someone else as Superman. Becuse for our generation when you say Superman, C Reeve is who comes to mind. I'm sure if you ask those of our parents age they might think more of George Reeve. For this movie I think they did as best of a job as they could casting someone else as the Man of Steel with Brandon Routh. It would be impossible for anyone to play the role with the history of C Reeve as the Character. But over all I think Brandon Routh did the best job possible under the circumstance. Anyhow I thought the movie was as ture to the feel and consistancy of the 70's and 80's Reeve Superman movies with two exceptions. The first which is not a bad thing. That being with special effects and CGI being what it is today the effects are just going to look better. Which is a good thing. For a film like Superman you have to have big effects. The second thing and the one I'm having the most trouble with. Is this whole Clark/Superman having a child with Lois Lane out of wed lock. This is my whole concervative views kicking in here. But I won't get into a whole rant about that. The thing about that is to me that's not the character of Superman. If that makes sence. He stands for truth, justice, and the American way! ![](http://img44.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/usa.gif) Those traits don't go with going and getting your girlfriend knocked up. Then comming back and sneaking aound with her on her husband. But the sad thing is the "American way" in 2006 seems to be all about that. But this point is what is causing me to keep from truley liking the film all the way. But the over all rest of the movie was dead on Superman to me. I just had geek fanboy moments everytime the Superman score would kick in when the movie started and when he was going to save the day. I thought Brandon Routh looked as humanly possible to Christopher Reeve as possible especialy as Clark Kent. I loved all the refrences and shots similar to the orginal movies. With Superman and Lois on the balcony and Superman flying into space at the end. I thought Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane was not as good as acting the role as Margot Kidder was. But she is a lot hotter for sure. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) The character of Lex Luther was just as evil, if not more than originaly by Geen Hackman. Superman's deeds of saving the day no matter what they were, was in the same spirit as the originals. So in the "Superman reality" nothing was unbelievable. I do believe they did a good job in trying to play it out that it was just continuing the story instead of starting from scratch and putting a new spin on it. So I would love to say this film was out standing and I give it two thumbs up. But my moral conflict as said above keeps me from doing that. I just get a more of an uneasy feel about it rather than being happy Superman saved the day. This movie does not change or taint my feelings about the C Reeve Superman moives I grew up and love. I know I'm the last person in America to see this film. As I am in most things. But thanks for listening to my long winded post. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I agree with you. The whole premarital sex/ kid of wedlock rubs me the wrong way too. He's Supposed to be a very moral character, but for some reason, WB has decided to go this route. The same thing happened on Smallville.
I have to hand to to George Lucas for Having Anikin get married before he had the twins. I was wondering how that would turn out too.

I think you guys are forgetting that the two of them slept together in Superman II. So technically it isn't too surprising that we could end up with "super kid."
Smallville, while entertaining, is geared toward that younger age range & nowadays you don't "even have a show" if you don't have kids sleeping around in your TV show. But what is the alternative? Reality television. Mmmmmm. That's rough.

Finally saw it last night (thanks for the lend, Jay!).
Overall, not bad. Much better than I expected, though the ending had me a bit bored and without the necessary suspension-of-disbelief - Superman able to fly a giant piece of Kryptonite after the first exposure weakened him in just a few minutes? Even with the solar super-chargeup (another little gripe), that was a bit hard to swallow.
And as a new "jumping in" point, it flopped rather miserably. Rebekkah has seen parts of the Reeves movies but never all of any of them, so she was lost for about the first half hour or so (I had to explain what I remembered from 1 and 2 - geez, 10 or more years and you lose a lot of detail ....).
Brandon Routh did a good job, and I was surprised to find myself liking his portrayal though he still lacks the physical reinforcement Reeves brought in (Routh just isn't built wide enough). Kevin Spacey was a great Luthor, and the guy playing Jimmy was great as well. Unfortunately, those were the only believable main characters. I was not impressed with Lois or Perry at all. I did like you they re-used Marlon Brando's part for Jor-El.
As pretty much every Reeves fan has said of this movie, the soundtrack made all the difference! I thought they played the Superman theme a few too many times (script issues more than scoring - it seemed like every third scene was a highly dramatic rescue or recovery), but I was still geeking out over the music all the way through.

I think you guys should get over the out of wed lock thing
The last I looked it wasn't the 1950's anymore
Ever hearf of the term My baby's daddy?
That has been going on for years
Plus it was only a movie
It never bothered me that they aren't married You all sound like old people and I know i'm older than all of you here
