I like the darkness of this series. Batman has all teh cool gadgets...and as much as I really didn't like the Joker upon first seeing him...in the cartoon he is pretty cool! THis was great as they started this from the beginning, after Bruce's parents were killed, but before he met the Joker. This was "The Batman's" first meeting with Joker. No history, they just threw him out as if he were a new character. The Joker did make a comment about how they were two sides of teh same coin. I couldn't see how e could state that, since he basically just encountered Bats, but whatever...overall, great animation and very good action...I will be watching this....

I'm still trying to make up my mind about this one - great story, great animation .... but odd compared to the current JL Batman. I do like the barefoot Joker aspect for fights, though it did seem a little reminiscent of Yoda's lightsaber duel. Animation definitely had an eastern influence, though still had a mostly western feel. The short ears on Batman's cowl give a more streamlined appearance, though they are less demonic-looking and therefore less threatening the the traditional.
The character changes are a bit off-putting from what has been the norm:
Bruce Wayne - just wants to be Batman (in secret), doesn't care much for anything else (at least so far as has been shown). Intelligent as always but shows a more spoiled upbringing.
Alfred - More of a supervisor than an aide. Works, but it's still odd to hear Bruce say "Ah, Alfred ...." like he's still a teenager.
Joker - A little less maniacal but a little more insane in his style and plans. Of course, he also hasn't become obsessed with Batman yet, either.
Commissioner Gordon - Not the best intro, but reasonable. Just wants whoever is behind the "Batman" vigilante rumor business brought in. Been awhile since Gordon has been shown BEFORE he makes his unwritten agreements with Batman.
The new detective characters should be fun, though I'll miss Officer Montoya and Detective Bullock from Batman:TAS.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the traditional villains are approached: Catwoman, Penguin, Freeze, Rhas al'Ghoul (sp?) .....

I liked the Catwoman and Manbat characters...I know Man Bat is getting a figure...I am hoping Catwoman, will too. She is fairly similar to the one currently in the comic(costume wise), just bigger ears on the new animated one.....
Yeah Montoya and Bullock will be missed, I was kind of hoping they will still bring them in somewhere....
