That's a bunch of ... ahem .... crap. I understood that "your people" meant either the JL or just the JL's universe (as opposed to the universe they were in), and I am getting sick and tired of people with chips on their shoulder turning everything into a racial slur. The problem will never get better until we learn to disregard race in personal relations - not ignore it, as there are some valid situations where it IS a significant element, but it does not need to be the first thing on the news that the local neighborhood is accusing the white cop who just arrested and/or shot a local black kid of racism (with the justification being that he was a white cop in HPD, and HPD is a racist organization, and so it follows). ![](http://img44.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/soap.gif) For those who don't know, Houston is having yet another round of this kind of thing regarding the controversial arrest of Quanell (sp?) X over the weekend.

Some of the people on imdb.com were pointing out that the time was in an era of "Leave it to Beaver" & compared that line to the way the women were treated. (Which Hawkgirl provided her own comic relief for)
I'll probably write up my own take when i have more time. Gotta hit the sack.

I think that with "your people" they meant to say the Justice League friends of John Stewart. I dont think by any circumstance that they were touching so sensitive topic in their cartoon, because the cartoon is targeted to kids. And with the current situation in the planet, kids should be teached that we are all the same no matter our religion, race or sex.

I think someone is trying to read too much into this...it's a cartoon for Pete's sake....this is just a nother example of how people try to make something out of nothing...
I agree that it was spoken in the context of "your people" being JL or people from his time/dimension...some people hae too much time on their hands....

I think that we are all pretty much in agreement on this one.... There are people out there that spend all their time nitpicking other peoples' words/lives/actions. I really have issues with people like that. ![](http://img44.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/soap.gif)

Alright, this is my first time posting, and I HAD to when I read some of your comments.
First of all, YES this episode (which I just saw myself) IS IN FACT making reference to the racism and sexism that existed in North America during the 40s and 50s. If you can't see this, I'm sorry, but you're either blind or just plain stupid.
The creators of Justice League are not racists (not that I know of, anyway), it's pretty obvious that they're making social commentary here... They're not condoning the Justice Guild's sexism and racism - they are just making a point that this sort of thing did in fact exist (and still does, to a certain extent).
The reason Justice League is such a great show is because it appeals to adults as well as kids. This is one of those instances, where it subtly tackles a rather mature subject and forces the viewer to think.

Whoa - careful with the blind & stupid comment there, man. We're all friends here.
I think it's open. It could definitely be an element which they wanted to add to the episode (reflecting the time that the episode reflects).
I do agree that racism is something that is overdone nowadays, however I also believe that the writers (even those of a cartoon) can do commentary on whatever they wish (preventing that the censors do not stop it) & that quite possibly this was one thing they wanted to do commentary on in this episode.
On a more direct point - Obviously, the JL cartoon crew is not rascist. Two of the seven voice actors for the main crew are black.
It is interesting how this thread has gone - whenever the term racism comes up in society nowadays, people tend to immediately take sides instead of hear the issue. Meaning that one side wants to completely ignore the complaint that something is racist (due to the fact that things are a little overboard in the P.C. side of society today) while the other side wants to beat the issue to the ground until everyone on the planet wants to do something to remove the "racist thing" we are referring to. (i.e. television show, book, movie, poem, person, etc)

Other then the blind and stupid comment he described how I took it to the T. This was one of the few episodes of this show that I saw and I instantly took it to mean race. Mabey that goes to show the mean spirited conservative tendencies I have. ![](http://img44.photobucket.com/albums/v136/TTC_Forum/coffee.gif) I also have what is called logic. JLA is way more adult oriented then for kids otherwise it would be way more cheesy. They were trapped in a time period, and back then that is just the way it was. Even if you were not racist you still refered to blacks in that way. You could almost say this episode could have been a history lesson for the young'ns.

Yeah, I probably was a bit hasty with that comment, but it really bothers me when something like that doesn't get across to some people - I mean, it's not even that subtle, either.
I just watched that episode again, and it's pretty obvious. I mean, they don't just point to the racism that existed in those "golden years", but sexism, as well.
Just goes to show you that Justice League is a very well thought-out show, as far as Saturday morning cartoons go, anyway. There's a lot of layers to it - I hope JL Unlimited is as good (probably not if they aren't doing 2-show arcs). I'm sure it will be at least entertaining.
