Just a quandary.
How many die hard trans fans do you really think are out there?
In relevance to the movie, alot of people are post bad things about the movie and it seems to me like an over all attitude is that bay is pissing off the fans and this is a mistake. But does anyone think if the fan boys don't see this its gonna bomb, he is probably shooting for the people who played, past tense, with transformers and kinda remember them, which is a significantly larger number of people.
I'm just wondering

That is true. S.marlinfan is more of a G1aholic so to speak. I am getting closer to "a little more than casual" fan status in terms of where the franchise is concerned.
I have seen a lot of the other stuff that is out there, but I don't consider myself a diehard fan of Transformers in general. I have kinda lost interest over the past year or two.

I am a diehard fan. Dihard to the point that I am open to anything. If I didn't catch back up around Armada. This would have been what brought me back.

One of the first things this thread made me think about was the idea of what a "true fan" is; I mean, there are those who say if you don't like such and such you're not a true fan. They..well, let's just say I don't like them. Who can really say what exactly constitutes a diehard fan? I think I am, but I know very little about the comics and the japan-only toons and lines. Does that exclude me from "die hard" status? I would say I'm a pretty die-hard fan; I think the last few lines have been great and I'm hopeful concerning future ones. I have also bought more tf's w/ each consecutive line. I've mentioned the same thing you have meta; this movie won't be a success or failure bc of tf fans; it's the average movie goer who will decide its fate.

Well - it is obvious that the average movie goer is going to decide the fate - This is true of just about every film. (An exception might be one with high impact such as "Passion of the Christ" or something like that)
This in mind, that doesn't mean the fans of the franchise have to like it.
I don't really think much of the term "true fan." It has to be one of the most subjective and pointless terms on the planet. Die hard does come in different flavors. Are you a fan of the franchise? It doesn't really matter the medium. Perhaps you only like Alternators? Perhaps you only read the original comic books? Perhaps you like it all?
Same thing with Star Trek - Can you be a die hard Star Trek fan and only like one series out of them all? Sure.
If you have a strong passion for something that is Transformers, I guess you are a die hard fan. What is hard to swallow is when the die hards try to go the "I'm more of a die hard fan than you are" route. It can't really be justified.
