All total honesty. If gimics could be droped and go back to basics. I think Transformers could outsell most toy lines, but they have to come down a bit in price. Alts are great for older collectors that can figure out how to transform them, but we definitly need a more basic version of the alts. About like we had for G1. Side note. I hope everyone is enjoying my late night ranting. Yea, a lot of ranting going on tonight! ;D Gimmicks really don't bother me as long as they don't hurt other aspects of the toy (the autobot combination gimmick hurt some energon figs). Gimmicks help sell toys. I think the prices are fine; I'm surprised they haven't gone up, as they've been close to the same for a number of years now. My opinion, bottom line, is that the tf franchise is doing just fine and the current toys are awesome and classics looks to be great as well. Keep it up hastak!!

alittle late getting back into this, but i like the new toys because they have far better robot modes than G1. In my mind that is the most important of the 2 modes. i also agree with desrto that everything in the current lines looks like something to me, really cool somethings. i could care less about realist cars, i drive to work every day in one i wanna see something cool.
but yeah, when g1 heads are talking smack on the new stuff they just need to look at some pics of the many crappy G1 toys(which most looked like mentally handicapped cybertonians) and realize every series has its flaws......cough * G1 megatron * cough

Well this "G1 head" as you are stereotyping me to be is not wearing G1 blinders - I am taking a step back and looking at the full array of transformers that have been released....and I find that the new stuff sucks on average compared to G1 on average. You can talk until you are blue in the face regarding how the new stuff is cooler....but I honestly would say you are smoking crack if you think the new stuff looks better.
You can feel the same way about me coming from the G1 end of things, and that is fine. But I just want people to realize that I am not closing my eyes, plugging my ears and saying "G1. G1. G1. G1. G1." - i am taking all things into consideration & determing that the newer transformer lines look like playskool trash. "Thems the breaks" for me.

one thing i must say , and befor i say this i am as guilty as anyone else in this conversation. when we say what is best in transformers we(as in the transfan community) have o stop acting like what we believe is fact. just because i believe new is better and you believe old is better dosnt make it true. transformers is transformers and what you like is what you like but stop acting like your right beyond a doubt

I always act like I am always right and everything is fact. Otherwise, I wouldn't believe in what I believe. If nobody stands by what they believe in, then there is no point in discussing opposing views. There's nothing wrong with saying, "I think you are on crack" because - I do. But you can think the same of me! It's not a big deal. I just avoid the route of name-calling because I think it serves no point. You are preaching to the choir here. My last post was essentially making the point that I do not believe that people who think G1 is better are just "not even bothering" to look at the new stuff. I am saying that there are people who can look at the franchise as a hole and might end up determining that G1 is better. Take for instance Beast Wars - I ended up being pretty disappointed with it. I made a topic on TNI regarding this, and people jumped in to discuss it. The Beast Wars fans jumping into the thread felt that I was another "hater" who just wanted to say "i don't get it" and not even bother with the show. Not true. I watched the entire series, and then presented my views. I think they appreciated this since my opinion was based on knowledge rather than ignorance. So with the G1 explanation & the Beast Wars discussion parallel, I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't written off as someone who didn't even bother to examine the newer stuff when coming up with my conclusion. Destro - What points? That Primus "pwns" nothing more than Little Tikes? True. It looks absolutely horrible. Definition and style are not made through wacky colors. The stuff is too abstract. I didn't even address how horrible the planet mode looks. There is nothing wrong with sticking to one area of a palette. Megatron race car - meaning this (dunno if tfu allows offsite linking): Like...that is totally a laughable vehicle. I mean seriously? And this is megatron? Isn't it supposed to be intimidating? Change the frame of reference - Let's say they came out and said, "this is the new Batmobile toy for the next film. You'd be rolling on the ground laughing, it is so ridiculous! Scourge - Ahhh. It doesn't really matter to me. I guess I have always been impartial to animal style molds. Don't really care for them, but don't really have anything against them. I usually just ignore them. Starscream - he would look better if they dulled him out a bit. Go with a less glossy paint job. Most of the paint jobs I have issues with (which is most of them) are paint jobs that scream rainbows. There is nothing wrong with a rugged looking Transformer. At least they stuck with basic shades that match. swave = shockwave? If so - impartial. Nothing looks too great about him, but I don't have many complaints as compared to others (such as Primus & Megatron)

I have cybertron megs, and he's a good toy; I'm glad I bought him. I could make a very similar argument regarding g1 megs' bot mode.. Admittedly this isn't the best pic of ss, but I love the colors and I think he's the best version of him out there: You've got dark red, black, gray, and a little purple. Looks good to me. And what about good ol' cybertron prime here (again, not the best pic)? And I still don't understand the "looks like nothing" comments. Even if you don't like futuristic vehicles, they still look like something.

I need more definition. I think they have too much color.

So check it out, here is my take on the whole G1 vs. all other TFs deal. For me, I grew up with G1 as a kid. So I have over 20 years of a connection of those characters and toys. I do hold those character dear to me and my love of TFs. But those are the characters I know. All the other series from Best Wars to now have no meaning to me. There are contless continunites to follow and keep up with. That has severily wattered down the franchise. I agree with CK about the alt modes of the new TFs. It's like they took a bot design and fold it up into any old kind of way they could put a piviot pont and what ever the shape was it was an alt mode. Sure the new TFs have all this articulation, gimics and all but give me my good old G1 Bricks any day of the week. I do take exception to Alternators that are true modern verision of their G1 counterparts. Because of what I said before, that I have a connection to those charcters. So when and Alt is done right I love it. It's 20 plus years of emotional ties for me. Plus I'm too lazy to learn a whole new line and continuity anymore. But for those of you who like the new stuff I'm not slamming you. If that's your deal then that's fine. I'm just a bitter old, stuck in my ways, closed minded G1 fan. ;D SO G1 FOREVER!!!

i think what it all comes down to is different series have strong points, so what you like is often determined by what you think is important in a toy. Most new transformers have wierd alt mods so if realism is important you dont like em, and on the otherhand most G1 had horrible bot modes, so if bot mode is important you dont think they are as good. i am 22 years old so i grew up in the BW era. i was born in 1984(year of TF . i had G1 bots when i was younger(later series and hand me downs) I dont think this made me a BW fanatic, i think it just made me open to new ideas when it came to transformers. i like animal transformers and futuristic cybertronian transformers better than realistic. i would like to see a TF series with no humans so they wouldnt have to disguise themselves and could be whatever they want. my 2 cents for now

My biggest complaint comes from thinking about the Giant Planet Cybertron figures. There is so much to them, but yet minimul transformarion complexity. Why pay the price they are at if they aren't fun to transform? Now Primuses lock gimic is one I think may be worth checking out. Then again thats now a $50 figure....

I see your point, but for me it's more the fact that the alt modes aren't that great (quickmix's is decent though, and m-plex has some decent fan modes). Like I said in my menasor review, I bought him for the bot mode mainly, and secondarily for the minicon and minicon storage.
