You know...I am going to ask a question regarding what pretty much applies to all Transformers (alt) designs that have been created in recent years -
WHAT is THAT?

You know...I am going to ask a question regarding what pretty much applies to all Transformers (alt) designs that have been created in recent years - WHAT is THAT?Huh? I can see your point on this mold, but most of cybertron and energon have well-designed alt modes that are easily recognizable as futuristic cars, planes, etc. ..and, I kinda like this..thing. It looks like a futuristic drilling maching of some kind, and the robot mode looks nice, and you can't go wrong w/ minicons (well, some of the time, at least).

..and, I kinda like this..thing. LOL. Dude. That sentence had me rolling. I have only casually seen some of the stuff out there....but the paint jobs have been messed up since 1989, and the molds are turning into "design a robot and then contort him into a position and stick these objects on him." Rather than here's a robot, here's an alt mode. Figure a way to adapt each in order to get them to transform from one to the other. When the Hasbro dudes were showing new product at Botcon, they even SAID "errrr...we took some liberties on his alt mode" during the slide show.

Well, you're taking the minority and making it the majority. Most of the newer molds, imo, have had great color schemes w/ great, original transformations, good to great articulation, and are just plain fun. Besides, when I say "thing", I mean "I don't know what to call it other than an interesting looking, fun construction vehicle. They're kids' toys; use your imagination!" That's really a big part of the point, isn't it?

Lovin' it!
I like how different it looks. The whole Landmine front end was a total throw back to the good old days of Energon!

I don't know what it is, but that AIN'T Menasor C'mon bear, it's not g1 anymore; arcee was a motorcycle, soundwave is a jet, megs is a racecar. Just bc it's not exactly like it's g1 predecessor doesn't make this any more or less Menasor than its original manifestation.

Call him Menasor the Lesser or MenasorII if you must. Just don't soil 1 of my favorite G1 Decepticons.

Dunno if image linking will work or not, but... Well, you're taking the minority and making it the majority. Most of the newer molds, imo, have had great color schemes No... Nope... Negative... Don't think so... Hey look! It's G2! <yawn> Did they paint this one? Yeah these colors make a lot of sense and finally.....ummm...YUCK? If somebody had shown me all of that stuff in the 80s, I would probably would have asked, "is that the fischer price knock-off Transformer line?" Most (but not all) of the current line has me thinking these things: cheap, simple-minded design, and ugly. Are there exceptions? Yes. But I see utter junk like this dominating the line more than the more "normal" design/paint that Red Alert and Runamuck have. Also - why design something that looks fairly decent but give it a horrible paint job? And finally - just because something is futuristic doesn't mean it has to be ridiculously un realistic

besides t-cracker and buzzsaw, I like all of those. I will say that some of those look much better in person; these pics don't do them justice, esp. megatron, and that's just a bad pic of hot shot. And dirtboss has a g1 constructicons theme...and unrealistic how?
And if you saw these in the 80's, you would've said: "Wow, super-poseable tfs that won't snap in two if you look at them wrong! Sweet!"

Well, we'll agree to disagree then. I have seen tons of the recent stuff in the stores & it is just flat-out boring junk.
In fact, I also forgot to mention - the packaging designs totally suck. Is it packaging for a toy or a piece of artwork? Keep it simple! It is meant to make the Transformer stand out and sell - not sell the box.
I know a ton of you collect the stuff, but I see no appeal in it all - whatsoever.

I'm with Destro. I like alot of these. I was always hoping G1 would have had more futuristic toys...back then I didn't think that, because I thought they were cool as they were...but I like the new assortments and the beasts thrown in, even the color variations don't really bother me that much. They aren't G1, we all know that, they are just what they are. A new updated version of Transformers. Nothing more nothing less...and frankly, I am happy to have them in the stores, because I am not discerning about just being hardcore G1 or Beast Wars or any other line....yeah, some of these suck and you wonder where they got some of the color schemes, but the toy market is totally different today. Let's face it, there are too many rules when it comes to toys.
