TFormers: It has been about 10 months since the film was announced. How are things coming along?
Don: Slowly but surely - When you have to deal with Steven Spielberg things happen according to his schedule.
TFormers: Where are you guys in the planning stages of the movie?
Don: We are awaiting the rewrite from Kurtzman and Orci.
TFormers: It was said recently that a director would be named soon. Has anyone been selected that you can name?
Don: No - We are currently finally approaching someone though.
TFormers: A lot of the fans are confused. Why did John Rogers write a script and then move on?
Don: Umm I don’t understand the question - that happens all the time in the development process.
TFormers: You have Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci on board writing now.
Don: Yes we do.
TFormers: What will they do different from John's work?
Don: They will address Steven’s concerns that the movie be accessible to a large audience.
TFormers: What's the most important thing(s) that writers bring to the table on a movie like this?
Don: In my opinion it is all about having a sense of structure.
TFormers: How do you guys handle the fact there will probably be new a cartoon running at the same time on TV?
Don: We will do our own film and hope people like it.
TFormers: Who handles the voice casting for the film?
Don: Us.
TFormers: You've mentioned that Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime) and Frank Welker (Megatron) could be in the film.
Don: Yes as voices, not “in” the film.
TFormers: Have they signed on and will there be other well-known voices in the movie?
Don: No voices have been addressed yet - People who think that do not understand how movies get made.
TFormers: Are we close to hearing about some of the actors who will be in the film?
Don: Again, director first.
TFormers: Can we count on seeing any toys or other related merchandise made just for the movie?
Don: You sure can.
TFormers: How active has Hasbro been in the development of the movie so far?
Don: Hasbro is very involved - it is their property.
TFormers: Has there been any interest from the car companies in having their vehicles appear in the film?
Don: Insane amounts of interest.
TFormers: We've heard about the release date being pushed back to Fall 2006. Was it more for marketing reasons to hit the holiday season, or that a summer block buster schedule just could not be met?
Don: It is about making the film great rather than making it just to make it.
TFormers: What has been different about this movie from the others you have worked on before?
Don: The brand awareness is so large it is intimidating sometimes.
TFormers: Its really great that you've been interacting with all the fans on your forums. I can imaging they keep you on your toes. How has that been for you?
Don: It has been great fun. I’ve gotten to know people like Sajse and Angelophile and Grimbot and the rest as people and it has been helpful in the extreme as we guide the film to the screens. It has also been interesting - i am pursuing the rights to a couple of other properties simply because fans mentioned it on the boards - It has really been great.
TFormers: Thanks to much for taking the time from your schedule to answer these questions.
