I was just sitting here looking at the mundain collection that my Transformers have become. There is nothing unique about it. I go to Walmart and buy what ever is new, open it, play around with it, let my son have it for a few days, and when he finnally gets bored of it it goes on display or in a storage container. I need to give credit where credit is due. Jack (aka sm40fan) is a true collector. He lets his past memories of being a kid guide his collecting. If I took all the money I spent on every goofy bot that came out and used to build my past memories I would have a collection to be proud of. Step 1: Tonight I make a list from start to finish of the every G1 I had as a kid and whenb they became part of my collection. Step 2: A mass clean out of my collection to raise some funds for the above. let Harry D pick himself a nice little collection first. Step 3: Be picky on what I get. It is going to take a nice clean bot to make it into my collection. Thanks for the wake up call Jack.

As this Thursday is slowly aproaching. I expect the final bot from my childhood collection. I will be in the form of Prediking, but Rampage completes the set. If I could go back and do this all again. I would change how I hunted and that would be it.

Good thing there's not another Botcon for a bit, Papa Bear. Between SM40 and Ck you might get all those childhood figures in one shot!

Your not alone Bear. I am doing the same thing. I just sold Energon Ultra Magnus and the money is going toward a reissue Predaking. In fact, I am scalling down my whole collection. I will only be collecting G1, BT/Alternators and a select few others. I do want the 3 Energon Combiners and Cybertron Prime when it comes out.

I am pretty much G1 - I have other stuff....but after the move you find the G1 stuff (plus a few exclusives) in the display case & the few energon figures and Unicron in boxes and bags in the back of the closet.
Most newer stuff has no meaning. I feel like I am nearing liquidating a lot of Star Wars stuff, and that is a rough feeling. I have surges here and there - where in one case Transformers is the leading collecting item for me....and then it turns into He-Man for awhile. Justice League is there....and then I have a few "small" things like Justice League and Thundercats.
But Star Wars got waaaay to big and I fear that it was only a "fad" I like having the vintage stuff and plan on keeping that - but the newer stuff just seems like filler as well as money that could have been spent somewhere else.

I had no idea that I was making an impact on other collectors with my philosophy in collecting. Thanks Cyberbear for the complement. You rock dude! My collecting plan is simple. Get what I had as a kid because those toys mean the most to me. Then I'll pick up the stuff I wished I had as a kid, and don't get caught up trying to get everyting. Because the new TF stuff(except most the Alts) has no meaning to me. Because I have no connection like I do with the G1 bricks I had as a kid. That's why I only get a TF every once in a great while. Because when you are talking G1 money don't go far. I have went back and gotten everything I had in Star Wars as a kid. Which is one of the highlights in my collecting career. But Star Wars is another subject to me. I'm stuck in an uncontainable collecting line with it. I'm trapped and I can't get out. George Lucas has brain washed me. I'm down to three TFs I had as a kid now. Then I have a good hand few more G1s then I'll be contient with my TF collection. But as of this point I do not know were the new TF movie will lead me. But I try to say focoused on what I'm after and not get sidetracked by the impluse buy. So thanks again Cyberbear, and go get them great G1 bricks.

Yeah, I've been this way for awhile. I got to say, G1 Is what I want, period. The Alts, and the rest are cool to get, and I really enjoy them, but owning what you had as a kid is what makes it special. I've been considering trying to pick up some of the Vintage Star Wars Figures I used to own as a kid as well. I don't know, Collecting for me is a drug habit. Once I'm off one drug, I get hooked on another.

My collection priorities are a bit different from you guys'; I have fewer g1 figs than anything else. I know it is partly, if not mostly, due to the fact that I had very few tfs as a kid, so I don't have quite the same attachment some of you do. I think cost also comes in for me, as I'm only working part time, so not much $$ for g1 stuff. Also, to be honest, I'd rather have a fresh reissue bot than one that's been opened and played w/ before, so vintage stuff doesn't have too much appeal to me in many cases. Besides, I love the current tf lines; energon and alts are great, and cybertron looks to be even better. I still love g1, but it's too expensive right now. When I finally get a teaching gig, my tune may change.

When you get a teaching gig you still might not have enough to buy G1 I plan on reissues when possible like for Hound which would be my second purchase. Heck, I should just get the Minibots reissue to get Bumblebee who was my first Transformer ever.

I hear ya Bear, but why does your collection have to reflect you childhood. I understand for many nostalgia drives it but my collection is way better as an adult than a kid.
I enjoy collecting now cause I have the room and the money. Ive never stopped likeing toys so I see no reason why my collection should be geared towards one section of my life.

Thats exactly what I mean SS49. Now as an adult I have the ability to buy pretty much whatever Transformer I want to a certain extent. When I was a kid there were characters that I dreamed of owning and could never find.
Right now I am looking at my shelf and see a ton of Energon and Armada. Non of which I had trouble attaining. Sure you get excited when you find something new, but it is nothing like being surprised at Christmas or a birthday with one that you didn't think you would own.
I can think of several stories both fun and somewhat dissappointing when I was a kid and into the bots.
