Just wondering how people decide what to buy.
I go for show apearence for most lines I missed in stores. Current lines I go for all of them.

I generally go by how the figure looks. The easiest example is Beast Wars Rhinox - awesome animated form but crappy toy, so I don't get the toy.
I also usually stick to the characters I like from a show, but sometimes a non-show (or Japanese show I haven't seen) will appeal to me. I'm still eyeing the Universe Nemesis Prime at Target .....
Of course, budget supercedes all of that ....

Usually I got for attachment to the character in the show. However for G1, it is "All that existed" (1984-1987) for me.
This actually resulted in me developing an interest in Ratchet and Ironhide. The toy didn't hold a candle to the cartoon characters, but it is actually really neat!

My answer is pretty much the same as jo's: if it looks cool (and I have the cash), I pick it up. I haven't seen energon so the show doesn't influence me at all. After seeing bw, though, I want to eventually get some of those molds.
I too am still up in the air about nemesis prime...
