Looking around on Ebay for TF it just blows my mind how much TFs go for that are AFA graded. What's up with that. Why, what, where, and who are these people that can affoard these things? I just don't see them being that super special. Like this acution I saw for a G1 AFA graded Gnaw that was over $400 now! These things are sealed in plexiglass cases, so you can't do nothing with them. I just don't get it. Thoughs, comments, quesitons.........

$10 for the toy, and so many hundreds more just because someone else "officially" declared the state of the figure and/or packaging.
Mainly a waste of money, in my opinion, unless you have a perfect 20-year-old C10 MISB .....

I don't see how you can say they aren't "true fans" - I would go with your second observation and say they are overly obsessed. Now - A favorite character is one thing (crud...I am already digging my own hole, but hear me out). I could understand if somebody wants a vintage Optimus Prime or Megatron or Starscream....whatever in excellent shape. The thing about ebay is - you cannot examine a box in every way to see where creases are, what dents might be in the box, any sort of tears, etc... When something is AFA graded, it has basically been judged by a professional & given a grade for its condition. If you buy something that has been officially graded, you know the grade to be true. It isn't just a seller saying C10! (and then you get it and ...the bottom of the box is missing) Well - that example I just gave was a little too extreme, but it makes my point. What this does is allow the item to go for how much it is really worth. Everyone of us who bids on ebay holds back just a tad (subconsciously) because we really cannot know the true condition of the item. If there are loose transformers (excluding even Fort Max and the other large ones) that manage to go for almost $100, it seems to me that a boxed Transformer would approach $400 easily. So basically, it is only going for its true value.

Every now and then someone comes up with a great gimmick to earn a buck. In steel work it is called AISC. In insurance it is called a Whole Life policy. In action figures it happens to be called AFA. Some everyday smoe came up with a great idea to charge to say something looked good. Anyone could do it, but he came up with it first. Man, I love this country.

I still don't understand what you guys have against AFA grading. What is the point of not liking it?
