When I think of true Love I think of Jesus Christ choosing to die for the sins of the world. No matter if you are religious or not there is no greater love than to lay down your life for another. Also there is 1 Chorintians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
That some it up best IMOP. -df

"What is love?", the exact same topic, came up on another message board I go to. I just copied my response here. I think that the best definition of love in the general sense (whether it be for one particular person, family, friends, or mankind in general as it says in the Bible we should have for everyone) is to think of others ahead of yourself. As it says in John 15:13, "Greater love has no man than this, than to lay down his life for his friends." As far as the more specific love between a man and a woman, I think it's similar but deeper. I like how someone else on the other board put it. "What I'm getting at is love is when two things have grown so close together, its as if they are one soul dwelling in two bodies, and without the other body, the soul would be incomplete." It's like two people that fit together perfectly. My grandmother said of my parents once that "They're like a pair of old socks; worn in all the same places and comfortable." Maybe not the most flattering, but I thought it was good. I think that a big part of love is trust. It's so rare to find someone nowadays that makes their word their bond and does what they say they will do, but without that it would seem you couldn't completely trust or even completely respect someone. Yet trust is such a huge part of a close relationship. I don't believe in love at first site. Attraction at first sight, yes, but not love. You can't fall in love with what you don't know, and you can't know the person's personality and character and the little things that make them unique and special until you get to know them personally. You may be able to see that you have an affinity for someone or are drawn to them fairly early on, but love takes time. That's my take on it, for what it's worth, coming from a 17 year old who hasn't actually experienced it. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)
