So poor Destro doesn't have to post again in a row... ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Right now I'm reading John Colter: His Years in the Rockies by Burton Harris, and Unveiling the Edge of Time: Black Holes, White Holes, Wormholes by John Gribbin. I just finished a very mediocre Star Trek TNG novel and a bunch of very good Dean Koontz novels and Xenocide by Orson Scott Card, which was great.

I just finished re-reading Harry Potter books 4 and 5. I missed a few little details the first time through. I love these books, and can't wait until the next one comes out!

Finished reading The Human Stain the other day..a great book, one of my new favorites. The only bad thing I can say about it is I don't really like the last scene..I'll read it again, but right now it seems...out of place or something. Other than that, I really like the ideas and questions Roth presents in this book; I'd like to mention some, but I don't want to give too much away. The twist in the book isn't too difficult to figure out, but seeing its impact on the main character (Coleman Silk) and those closest to him (esp. his mother, brother, and one of his sons, who seems to somehow know something is wrong) is very interesting and is a great study in human psychology. If you get a chance to pick this one up, do so!! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Oh, and Silk's lawyer's name? Primus. ;D

STAR TREK: TITAN — Book 1 — Taking Wing
BACK COVER:
After almost a decade of strife again foes such as the Borg, the Cardassians, the Klingons, and the Dominion, the United Federation of Planets is at the dawn of a new era. Starfleet is renewing its mission of peaceful exploration, diplomacy, and the expansion of knowledge. Among the starships spearheading that endeavor is the U.S.S. Titan, commanded by Captain William T. Riker and manned by the most biologically varied and culturally diverse crew in Starfleet history.
But their mission does not begin according to plan.
In the wake of Star Trek Nemesis, Praetor Shinzon, slayer of the Romulan Senate, is dead. The power vacuum created by his demise has put the Romulan Star Empire, enemy of the Federation, at the brink of civil war. Competing factions now vie for control of their fragmenting civilization, and if the empire should fall, that entire area of the galaxy could destabilize.
To restore order to the region, Titan's long-anticipated mission of exploration is delayed as Starfleet assigns Riker to set up power-sharing talks among the Romulan factions. But even as the first tentative steps are taken toward building a new Romulus, the remnants of the Tal Shiar, the dreaded Romulan intelligence service, are regrouping behind the scenes for a power play of their own. With no other help available, Riker and the Titan crew become the last hope to prevent the quadrant from falling into chaos.
My Comments: This was an awesome book. If you want to read it, I would recommend reading the entire "A Time To" series, watch Nemisis, then read the book. It is one heck of a story.
You dont have to read the other books, but it adds to the story.

Finally finished American Pastoral; let me say, if you haven't read anything by Philip Roth, start. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) The main character is Seymour "The Swede" Levov, a man who seems to have the perfect life; legendary athlete in high school, marries a Miss America contestant, has a million-dollar business, but then..his daughter grows from an intelligent, loving girl into a fanatical terrorist who brings the Vietnam War home by blowing up the local post office. Of course, the Swede's life is never the same as his "American Pastoral" has been destroyed, and it is interesting to see how he attempts to deal with it and tries to return his life to some level of normalcy. The Swede isn't the most intelligent man; he isn't very deep and doesn't understand the motives and true character of others, but he is, everything considered, a good man who does everything he can to help his family and daughter even though she becomes a political fanatic in spite of (because of?) his role in raising her. I would go on, but I don't want to give too much away. This is a great book, right up there w/ Roth's other works, and will definitely make you think about many things in a new light, including the role of the family, basic human interaction, and the role, or lack thereof, of morality in modern American society.

It is really good. The content is definitely for an adult audience, but the story is well-thought out and fits in well with the world of oz. (imho)
The past two weeks I haven't really had the time to sit and read it, but now I am back on it.

I'm rereading Portnoy's Complaint by (guess who) Philip Roth.

I haven't been reading much lately... I've actually been kicking around some story ideas for actually writing a book..... Jo'Roq is helping me come up with the premise, and I've gotten a few characters laid out already. If it ever gets anywhere, I'll let you guys read it. It is going to be a Sci-Fi genre novel.
